The Dark Knight Rises Review, Trailers, Gallery & Interviews! *No Spoilers*
First things first, The Dark Knight Rises won't disappoint you. It will thrill you, trick you and test your listening skills like some sort of maniacal, leather clad cover teacher. But it's the best kind of conclusion anyone could have hoped for from Christopher Nolan's epic Batman trilogy.
The star-studded cast put on a great show. Christian Bale actually makes the dual role of Batman/Bruce Wayne the most interesting of all the three films. You soon forget Anne Hathaway's Disney princess past and start to focus on the important things, such as her cunning portrayal of Catwoman - although she's never called that - and her exceptionally awesome arse.
Michael Caine maintains his loveable role as straight-talking Alfred. Gary Oldman's Commissioner Gordon is more vulnerable and strained this time round, which fits nicely with John Blake (Joeseph Gordon-Levitt) who is taken under the Commissioner's weary wing. Finally, Bane is a powerful, vicious character who doesn't quite compare to The Dark Knight's Joker, but still holds his own as a menacing icon of calculated destruction, even though he does sound like Stephen Fry talking into a pint glass.
We'd strongly recommend re-watching Batman Begins and The Dark Knight before delving into The Dark Knight Rises. Overall, the film is epic with amazing set-pieces that are delivered in an unrelenting onslaught, punctuated with teeth chattering explosions. It could have been shorter, there could have been more screen time for The Batman and Bane could have been more coherent - but none of these things ruin the film. It's an astounding conclusion, which few directors could have pulled off. This film secures Nolan's Batman saga as perhaps the greatest film trilogy of all time.
