Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed!
Hideo Kojima - the brainbox behind the Metal Gear Solid series - has confirmed in the July 2012 issue of French magazine IG that Metal Gear Solid 5 is definitely going to happen and will run on the Fox Engine!
The Fox Engine was built especially by Kojima's team for next generation consoles such as Playstation 4 and Xbox 720. You can see the preview of the engine from E3 2011 below.
Kojima hinted in the interview that fan favourite Solid Snake might feature in the game. "We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns Of The Patriots (Metal Gear Solid 4)."
He described it as an infiltration game with characters interacting similarly to Deus Ex: Human Revolution - so expect Mass Effect-style conversation wheels to help stretch out Kojima's infamous love of cut-scenes.
In an interview with Eurogamer in 2011, Kojima hinted that MGS5 could be "a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy". Which would see the game set around 1944, 20 years before the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
However, there was some resistance from his team about handling Metal Gear Solid 5 without his involvement. It was around that time when the idea of Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance was formed.
We don't know how far into development the game is - it could just be a pixel-y little twinkle in Koj's eye. Keep your own eyes on Hideo Kojima's Twitter account for any more info on Metal Gear Solid 5.
