Ever since the landmark first game in the Syndicate series launched in 1993, it has been lauded as a genre-defining game that is a cult favourite.

Now, the suits are EA are hoping that the genre-shifting reboot of the franchise - it's now an FPS - will prove just as popular when it is unleashed later this week.

Set in 2069, we're told that the game will take players into a "dark, Machiavellian world run without government," and promises to be a "fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter."

The dubstep-laden trailers so far have got us all sat up and practically drooling with anticipation, and the launch trailer (above) is no different. This looks to be a game you need to get your hands on.

Syndicate is released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on 24 February 2012!
