Film Review: 188.8.131.52
This week we've been watching Brit-flick 184.108.40.206, rom-com She's Out Of My League and serial killer horror The Killer Inside Me.
Watch the trailers then read our verdict on each of them below.
Writer/director/actor extraordinaire Noel Clarke follows up Kidulthood and Adulthood with another gritty UK flick, but this time the girls are in charge.
The four honeys – all pretty amazing, but leggy St Trinian’s starlet Tamsin Egerton might just be our favourite for the amount of time that she prances about in her knickers – spend three days in two cities at the centre of one very unlikely diamond heist. Hence the title.
A few familiar faces (including a kick-ass Michelle Ryan, an amusingly sensitive Plan B and a portly Kevin Smith) add some extra star power in a violent, funny and lightning-paced effort that deserves to be huge. Clarke could have just produced 2010’s best British film.
Stick It On The Poster:
The only negative? Having to pick your favourite girl
She's Out Of My League
Dreading being dragged to see SATC2? Neatly sidestep the issue by suggesting this 'romantic comedy' instead.
Sexy posho Alice Eve (think: curvy Keira Knightley) leaves her phone at an airport where everybloke Jay Baruchel works and, amazingly, calls and asks him out.
Cue smutty-yet-sweet humour (think Superbad meets Meet The Parents) as he struggles to prove his doubting mates wrong. Much better than that 'old birds on tour' SATC2 nonsense.
The Killer Inside Me
Awesome! Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson in the same movie!
But hang on, before you get too excited, most of the bedroom action here involves Alba’s prostitute character being beaten to within an inch of her life by secret serial killer Casey Affleck.
The violence is genuinely shocking at times and the story is impossibly dark, but all three stars pull off the sort of performances that usually stir the Oscars board. Probably not a first date movie, though...
