Movie Review: Invention Of Lying!

The Invention Of LyingThe Invention Of Lying
Ricky Gervais makes his bid to join Hollywood’s top table. The “no-one-can-lie” premise results in a gag-heavy opening half hour of brutal honesty (Jennifer Garner’s opening line? “Sorry, I was just masturbating”) until Gervais’ loser screenwriter tells the world’s first porky. It then gets a bit preachy and veers off into rom-com territory, but an A-list cast and Ricky’s usual schtick keeps this on track.

District 13: Ultimatum
OK, this is in French – but bear with us. Bloody gang crime in a segregated district of Paris, Transporter-style action and a pumping soundtrack mean it’s well worth taking the reading glasses for – if only because it manages to make “street running” look cool, rather than just something for lads who can’t afford skateboards.

HouseHouse: Season 5
(DVD) Hugh Laurie and his grudgingly impressive Yank accent (and limp) return. This time out, House blames himself for Amber’s death, things hot up between Cameron and Chase, while Wilson battles with potentially leaving the hospital. Somewhere between Casualty and Scrubs, this is an addictive drama, but we can’t help feel the same sort of thing happens in every show.

Damage
(DVD) WWE legend Steve Austin is an ex-con looking for kicks from illegal underground fighting. Brutal fight scenes, plus Stone Cold isn’t even that bad an actor.

Walled In
(DVD) Psychological horror with hot-again Mischa Barton tormented by demons trapped inside a condemned building. Surprisingly scary in places.
