Mirrors
What happens: A demon, who’s using mirrors as a gateway to the world, starts killing people via their reflections. Kiefer Sutherland tries to stop it. But naturally, it’s a bonkers idea and everyone thinks he’s going mad. Like The Ring, The Grudge etc, this is another Hollywood remake of an Asian horror original.

What’s good about it? It’s gory, scary and has Sutherland doing his very best Jack Bauer impression – even though he’s just a security guard.

What’s bad about it? All the successful frights are undermined by too many unintentional laughs. And the whole plot is clearly ridiculous – while you should find the movie genuinely chilling, it’s unlikely to make you scared of your own reflection after you’ve left the darkness of the cinema.

Verdict: Does its job – splatterings of blood and a quickened heartbeat – but it fails to do for mirrors what Jaws did for sharks.
