Your contract’s in my office! Joking aside, you did well to hang in there and still be standing.

We know the players hate pre-season but what’s it like for a manager?
I love putting the players through their paces. I was a player myself, so know what it’s like to be on the receiving end, but it’s a necessary evil. The lads will be feeling stiff tomorrow but much better for it.

Can you tell straight away if a player’s over-indulged during the summer?
We test them before they go on holiday and you can see who has let themselves go even before we test them again on their return. They’re the ones we target!

Is it normal for players to throw up during pre-season training?
Ha ha! We’ve already had a lad throw up this week, but that’s because he had a late lunch. We give them a programme over the summer and if they don’t follow it, they struggle on the training ground.
