The Big One: Arsenal vs Man United
Arsenal vs Man United, Saturday 8 November, 12.45pm, Sky Sports 1/HD1
ON THEIR CLASSY PREMIER LEAGUE TUSSLES!
"If you look back to the early noughties, they were great teams and we enjoyed some huge battles before Chelsea got Abramovich's cash. In 1998, Arsenal challenged Manchester United's dominance. In 1999, United won the title by a point and put us out of the FA Cup in the epic semi-final before securing the Treble. It got more physical in 2001 and 2002 and although Arsenal turned it around in 2003-04, United are back in the dominant position."
ON THAT VAN NISTLEROOY PHOTO!
"Arsenal fans enjoyed my reaction, but I've not been welcome in Manchester since! We needed a result. It was 0-0 and Ruud van Nistelrooy had got Patrick Vieira sent off. We were pretty angry, so when he missed a last-minute pen, we gave him a little bit. It wasn't the wisest response, but that was the beginning of our "Invincibles" season."
ON ARSENAL PLAYING CATCH-UP!
"In the long term, building the stadium is great for Arsenal. But in the short term, it has taken away the trophies Arsene Wenger could've won. The games aren't as physical as they once were, either. Arsenal have become more artistic, creating pretty patterns. They were more organised and physical in the old days and had a team for all occasions. Now, Chelsea deal with the power game better."
ON FERGIE & WENGER!
"Now that United are winning everything, it seems Fergie is mellowing towards Arsene Wenger. Take that how you want, but I'm pleased they have that respect for each other. Now that I have stepped out of it, I see that when you are at the top, you have to do that."
ON ARSENAL VS MAN UNITED IN 2008-09
"United have been Champions for the last two seasons and whenever the Champions come to town, they have an air of arrogance. It's up to Arsenal to take that away. They're young pretenders, with a sprinkling of experience. I'm sure the Arsenal players look at Rio Ferdinand picking up trophies, thinking they have to make sure it doesn't happen again. They must try to emulate United, as there's no reason why any of the Big Four can't do what United did last season."
