There's an air of excitement on Merseyside this year and it has nothing to do with being crowned Europe's capital of culture.

Liverpool has its swagger back, and its culture is being regularly showcased on the lush turf of Anfield. There's a real belief about Rafa's boys this season and even their recent glitch at Tottenham last weekend has done nothing to dampen it.

Having made one of their most commanding starts to a Premier League campaign, the Reds have seen their side come back from losing positions, play badly and win, beat Man United for the first time under Benitez and stop Chelsea's 86-game unbeaten run at fortress Stamford Bridge.

Their defence is as rock solid as Alan Hansen's last title-winning backline, their midfield as all conquering as the days of Graeme Souness and Sammy Lee, and in Fernando Torres they have a frontman as deadly as goal-machine Ian Rush. So can they roll back the years and claim their spot at the top of English football? Reds fans will hope so with Man United only one title away from equalling their record trophy haul.
