Maradona: New Argentina Coach!
Posted in Latest Sport | 1 year ago
All things being equal, Diego Maradona will probably be the greatest manager ever! After all, the football genius did single-handedly - pardon the pun - lead Argentina to lift the World Cup.Now he will get the chance to do the same again, but this time from the dugout, as the Argentine FA confirm that they will appoint Diego Maradona as the new coach of Argentina on Tuesday.
His coaching experience is limited - 23 games in two different spells at the helm of a club - but with his appointment Argentina will be hoping some of his iconic and legendary footballing ability will rub off on the players.
Highly rated Argentine striker Lionel Messi welcomed Maradona's appointment despite recently being criticised by the footy colossus. Speaking to Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper, Messi said: "I know Diego appreciates me and I don't hold any grudges. He's great and I admire him for what he gave to Argentine football."
And this is the exact type of inspiration Argentina will be hoping Maradona can give its up and coming stars...
And at this point we'd like to point out that legendary players do not always make for the best managers, just ask Glenn Hoddle, Graeme Souness, Peter Shilton, Lothar Matthaus, and the list goes on.
So will Diego Maradona buck the trend of legendary players that become managerial flops? Vote below and let us know what you think.
