Bestival 2012: ZOO Hits Up The Eclectic Isle Of Wight Weekender!
We rocked upto the Isle of White based festival early Saturday morning with the best of intentions to behave… whoops!
After setting up our tiny home for the night and cracking open our first, erm – apple juice* – we headed for the main arena. We soon noticed the theme of this year's festival, mainly due to everyone being dressed in animal onesies. There were lots of bees, foxes and ladies in tight lycra - which we thoroughly enjoyed!
The first thing we heard was the unmistakable work-out-beat of Mr. Motivator, so headed to the main stage to join in the aerobics. After that, we moved on over to the Bollywood tent where Scratch Perverts were kicking off their fast-paced set, making the tent seem more like the Ministry of Sound!
Beardyman was our next stop – his off-the-cuff set lists never fail to impress a crowd and we soon found ourselves sardined inside the Big Top tent. The onlookers were so tightly packed in that we didn’t even have to move, as we were excitedly dragged around with the mass of sweaty bodies to the rhythm of BM's amazing beatboxing.
After getting completely lost and slightly scared in the Ambient Forest we calmed our nerves with more... apple juice and headed back to the main stage for Two Door Cinema Club. They played a cracking set and blew away the surging mass of burnt people with hits including Do You Want It All and Something Good Can Work from their debut album, as well as introducing great tunes from their latest release, Beacon.
Headlining the main stage were New Order, marching up to the mic and screaming: "Who are we?" Apparently "80s rock stars attempting a comeback" was not the answer. Nonetheless, they were the sweet cherry on top of what was a great day of music.
But it didn't end there for ZOO - we stocked ourselves up with juice cartons and a burger or two, then went to brave the epic noise of Justice. From there on it gets a little hazy, probably due to all the sun… honest!
*We mean cider, obviously. We just don't want to encourage drinking... much.
