Top 10 Football Films!
10. Green Street (2005)
If you can get over the fact that Frodo is playing a tough hooligan, then this movie is worth a watch.
9. Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
Marginally categorised as a chick flick, but it still involves hot girls playing football. An ideal combo, surely.
8. Mean Machine (2001)
With Vinnie Jones in the lead role, this film was never going to win many Oscars. Though, it does feature poor old ZOO columnist Danny Dyer being kicked in the danglies.
7. Fever Pitch (1997)
We don't usually watch films starring Colin Firth, but he does manage to successfully convey how football can take over your life and annoy your girlfriend too. Good work, Colin.
6. Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait (2006)
Filmed during one match between Real Madrid and Villareal and focusing entirely on Zidane, this film shouldn't have worked. Luckily controversy follows the legendary Zidane wherever he goes, making this documentary unmissable.
5. Shaolin Soccer (2001)
A crazy mash-up of football and kung-fu. What more could you possibly want from a film?
4. The Firm (2009)
Remake of the 80s treasure, and lives up to the hype. One of the best footy hooliganism films to date.
3. The Damned United (2009)
It may have only just been released, but this film is an instant classic. Michael Sheen's performance proves the legendary status of Brian Clough.
2. The Football Factory (2004)
The best football film made this decade. Frank Harper steals the Cockney limelight from Danny Dyer with his portrayal of psychopathic hooligan Billy Bright.
1. Escape to Victory (1981)
An ultimate football classic. Michael Caine, Sly Stallone and Pele attempting to escape from a POW camp by staging a football match. Utterly unlikely. Just brillant.
