Gongs updated hotlist 3/8/07

Welcome back music fans to your updated need to know list of tunes that you must make a place in your life for. Thankfully i avoided any copyrigth issues so im keeping the title to this piece lol So finally Rihanna and her bloody umbrella song are no longer no1 (more of that later). What else has been happning in the world of music, well the likes of The Enemy, Kasabien, CSS and LCD sound system have been playing the July dates to Ibiza Rocks. Bringing a little taste to all the clubheads on the white isle. Dizzy Rascal may have finally put the nail in his own coffin on Radio 1's live lounge this week, JoWhiley (bless her) descibed it as "really really good" or some other generic phrase she uses after acts have murdered their own and someone elses material (can you tell i don't like him). Radio 1 also played the new Foo Fighters and Stereophonics singles ths week, both sounded good with the Foo's single being slghtly different to what they normally do with a more structured feel rarther than your normal thumping rock track.

So down to the nitty gritty what are the tunes i think you should have in your life well:-

Kate Nash - Foudations: Second single brings this 20 year old London girl into the mainstream. A mixed story about the break up of a relationship the song bags in places using poor lyrics, ryming bitter and fitter please. But generally this track skips along at an uppace beat and entertains well. Look out for her debut album,Made of Bricks, this month hopefully it will be more of the same

David Guetta feat Chris Willis - Love is gone: upbeat dance tune from french DJ and part time hair product sales man (do you know what im on about?) using the vocal talent of Chris Willis. Sticking to the tried and tested formula for dance music the tune bumps along at an upbeat pace that may just make you want to tap along to it....

The Enemy - Your not alone: Track no6 from debut abum Well live and die in these towns. Upbeat guitars banging drums and meaningfull lyrics its my favourite track of the moment. Did i mention ive got tickets to see them?

Maximo Park - Girls who play guitars: North east rocks finest with a front man who has the same name as a leading clothes guy. No more explanation needed.

The Fray - Over my head (Cable car): Denvers gift to world music (take that how you like) inspired by their deep religious beliefs this four piece piano driven group may be americas answer to Coldplay or could be cheap knock off. Probably have to wait till their second album to find out.

Timbaland - The way I are: Musics man of the moment (stand aside Mark Ronson) delivers what the UK has been crying out for for over two months a new No1 single. His album may be bogged down with over elaborate songs but the singles that have come from it so far are much simplier affairs with everything a good hip hop song needs. Catchy hooks, dirty lyrics, a little bit of a story we can all relate to and a smoking video. AND MOST OF ALL IT KNOCKED RIHANNA OF THE NO1 SPOT IN THE SINGLES CHART. for that alone he guy deserves a knight hood

Golden oldie to enjoy: Kelly Clarkson - since youve been gone: Winner of the first series of American Idol demonstrates how talent show winners should go about things. ie head down and a little work go along way, don't get caught up in the moment. This song may well turn out to the be high tide mark of her carear but with her third studio album peking at no 2 in the uk album chart maybe there is life in her yet.

If you can only afford one CD you need to know the Album of the moment: The Enemy - We'll live and die in these towns: I know this is starting to turn into an advert for them but they really are the band of the moment. Mabe the closest thing available at the moment to the high times of british rock of the mid 90's this coventry three piece should be going for years to come. Having supported the likes of The Fratellis, Kasabian, Ash and Manic Street Preachers they have stepped out of the shadows with a simple sounding album that delivers basic entertaining indie music and No1 status which was onlt stopped by some gap toothed TV "talent" winner (PLEASE!).

As a side note i have discovered that the no1 single when i was born is Jealous Guy by Roxy Music and Brian Ferry.

Be good to once again get everyone's thoughts on the above and what music is rocking your world

Mark
