Leon Camier joined the Airwaves Ducati team in 2008 for his 2nd year in the British Superbike Championship.
21 years of age, Leon has won both the British 125GP and Supersport Championships before stepping up to the Superbike class in 2007, finishing the season in 8th place.
“I’m feeling really good and am really pleased to have joined Airwaves Ducati, my aim is obviously to win the championship and I think I am in with a really good chance this season."
Leon is nicknamed ‘Shafter’, given to him by Casey Stoner and Chaz Davies who used to ride in the British 125 series; it was originally Cam-Shaft from Camier which, over time, turned into Shafter.
He lists his role models as Lance Armstrong, Casey Stoner and Troy Bayliss - his favourite rider of all time; believing there is always something to be learnt from people like that.
To prepare for a race Leon walks around the track the evening before a race to clear his head and get him in a good mind set for the next day, and is more than willing to share his learnings for future track stars.
“It’s not just about what you do on the track, you have to put in just as much effort off the track. My racing career has all happened pretty quickly and at 21 I’m now going to be racing for one of the most established teams in the paddock, it’s all come though hard work and dedication.”
